Creative Commons provides legal tools to give everyone, from individual creators to large companies and institutions, a simple, standardised way to grant copyright permissions to their creative work. The combination of these tools and their users creates a pool of content that can be copied, distributed, edited, remixed, and built upon, all within the boundaries of copyright law.
Kennisland is Public Project Lead for the Dutch affiliate (Creative Commons Nederland) of Creative Commons Global and has been since the start of the affiliate, over 10 years ago. Together with our partners Waag Society and the Insitute for Information Law (Legal Lead) we have done many projects over the years++OverviewGo to our website for a Dutch overview of our work.. As an affiliate, Creative Commons Nederland develops and promotes the Creative Commons legal tools in the Netherlands. Creative Commons Nederland is also the helpdesk for all Dutch questions about the Creative Commons legal tools (licenses, waivers and markings).
We have made some massive successes in assisting the adoption of Creative Commons licenses in the Netherlands. Update 2018: start of Dutch Creative Commons Chapter
On Friday, September 14, 2018, a new era begins for Creative Commons in the Netherlands. The structure is changing due to a worldwide reorganisation of Creative Commons. A Creative Commons Chapter, for which an association++AssociationAn association (‘vereniging’ in Dutch), is a business structure that is used by two or more individuals with a common focus. Its purpose is the fulfilment of common goals and the maintenance of shared facilities and resources. An association is made up of members and an appointed committee including a chair, secretary and treasurer. will be established in September, will take over the Dutch representation. The association will, among other things, further disseminate the Creative Commons ideas in the Netherlands and organise activities.
