In 2013 the European Commission’s Directorate for Education and Culture selected Kennisland,  Peacefulfish++Peacefulfish is a media consulting company, supporting the creative industries by developing innovative financial instruments and strategies to foster the growth of creative businesses and regions. and MFG to create “an open laboratory to test innovative approaches to deal with content for innovation and digital sharing and distribution”.

In the fall of 2013 we launched a Europe-wide call for ideas that bring together culture and technology in innovative ways. The @diversity call was aimed at organisations developing fresh ideas that fuse cultural expression with technology. We were looking for ideas that were designed to make innovative use of information and communication technologies to produce, make available, distribute, or extract value from cultural content.

On the 3rd of December, Androulla Vassiliou, EU commissioner for Education and Culture, presented the 12 winners++See the @diversity website for an overview of the 12 winning ideas. of the competition at the European Culture Forum in Brussels.

Throughout 2014 we have worked with the winners on implementing their ideas. This happened through a mix of physical meetings and online coaching via a dedicated coaching platform. Via the platform we offered coaching on legal issues, business modelling, technology, access to finance, marketing and networking. The aim was to help the selected projects attract financing and customers for the idea, and transform it into a sustainable project, product or service that enriches Europe‘s cultural landscape and strengthens its cultural and creative sectors for the future.

In September 2014 @diversity organised the Creative Shift Forum, a high-level exchange forum for cultural debate, networking and knowledge exchange on cultural entrepreneurship, technology and finance to discuss the outcomes of the project.
