Open Beelden (Open Images) is an initiative by the Dutch Institute of Sound and Vision and Kennisland. Open Beelden is a mediaplatform that provides access to audiovisual collection that can easily reused. All material on Open Beelden is licensed using Creative Commons Licenses.

Open Images, by Sebastiaan ter Burg (director, editor, audio) / Netherlands Institute for Sound and Vision (producer), is licensed under Creative Commons – Attribution-Share Alike.

Open as a startingpoint

Open means that you can reuse something without the need to ask permission of the rightsholder. Permission is already granted by using open licenses, like Creative Commons licenses. Not only is the content on Open Beelden openly available, it is our goal to provide as much resources as openly as possible. We use open source, open formats and open standards. Using as many open components as possible contributes to an open Internet.

Distribution Platform

All media on Open Beelden can be downloaded for personal and often for commercial use. Next to download offers to users Open Beelden also acts as a distribution platform of open content to Wikimedia Commons++Wikimedia CommonsWikimedia Commons is the media repository of all Wikimedia projects, like Wikipedia and Europeana++EuropeanaEuropeana is a metadata aggregator and search engine for cultural heritage in Europe. Open Beelden is the largest contributor of video to Wikipedia.
