Learning dialogue between the Netherlands and Turkey on elderly care

Kennisland and the Turkish Güven Foundation have initiated a learning dialogue between the Netherlands and Turkey on how our societies should deal with our ageing populations and the resulting pressures on the care system. The objective is to collect lessons, ideas and routes towards possible solutions for pressing issues from another cultural perspective, while also promoting international collaboration.

  • What are their respective cultural backgrounds and perspectives on growing old and the associated care needs?
  • What impact do these have on formal and informal care tasks?
  • How do families and other loved ones contribute to elderly care?
  • What can we learnFor this dialogue, we will bring together elderly care professionals and experts from both countries. about issues such as caring for elderly people with a migration background?

What we will do

For this dialogue, we will bring together elderly care professionals and experts from both countries. They will join three learning/working groups based around the three topics. In these groups, we will work together to identify the pressing issues and what we wish to learn from one another.

We will collect stories from the immediate environments and contexts of the working group participants. We will collect stories from the immediate environments and contexts of the working group participants. Kennisland will analyse and contextualise these stories and the responses to them and present them in an attractive form for publication. Study trips will also be made to Ankara and Amsterdam to gain a greater understanding of our respective contexts and to reflect on the experiences and challenges in both countries.
